Flame Retardant Related Knowledge Phase II-Vertical Combustion Test
The vertical burning test is to test the flame propagation on the plastic surface. According to a certain flame height and a certain flame angle, the horizontal or vertical sample is regularly burned for several times, and its combustibility is evaluated by the duration of ignition and burning of the sample and whether the igniter paved under the sample is ignited. Can be used by the plastics industry, inspection departments and scientific research units.
Test standard
Plastics-Determination of flammability-Horizontal and vertical methods GB/T2408-2008
Test flame -50W horizontal and vertical flame test method IEC 60695-11-10:1999
UL94,ASTMD3801, ASTM D4804, ISO 1210, ISO9773, IEC60695, GB/T2408, GB/T 832
Metrics Definition
1. Ignition distance from sample: 150mm, blue flame height: 20mm ± 2mm
2. Flame application time: 0~99.99 seconds set arbitrarily
3. Gas used: methane, natural gas, liquefied gas
Sample Requirements
Sample size: length 125mm ± 5mm; width 13.0mm ± 0.3mm; thickness 0.8~3.2mm, can be negotiated according to the actual products, but the thickness should not exceed 13mm.
experimental method
Place the lighted Bensheng burner/cotton wool as shown below
The flame center is placed at the midpoint of the lower edge of the sample, and the distance from the top of the burner to the lower end of the sample is
10±1mm for 10±0.5 seconds. If the shape and position of the sample change during the combustion process, the gas appliance shall be adjusted accordingly. If melt drips during the test, the gas appliance can be tilted to 45 degrees. After 10±0.5 seconds of combustion, the gas appliance shall be removed at a speed of 300 mm/min for at least 150mm. At the same time, the residual flame time t1 shall be recorded and the combustion shall be carried out again for 10±0.5 seconds, record the residual flame time t2 and residual combustion time t3 after removal, and confirm whether flaming or flameless combustion spreads to the fixture. Confirm that the burning drips of each product do not ignite the cotton.
Evaluation of results
Note: Only one of the five samples is unqualified, and the second set of samples can be used for testing. When t2 t3 is 51~55 seconds (V-1) or 251~255 seconds (V-2), another set of samples will be used to verify the results.
When applying for V-2 grade, nylon 66 should be provided in the form of less than 120RV. If the RV is equal to or greater than 120, the RV of the molded sample should not be less than 70% of the RV.
