The automobile engine has been running in a high temperature environment for a long time, and the large amount of heat generated needs to be evacuated in time to ensure the stable and good work of the engine and its surrounding parts. The evacuation of heat is mainly done through the cooling system of the engine, so what is the cooling system of a car engine?

 

The cooling system of the engine can be divided into a water-cooled cooling system and an air-cooled cooling system. The current models on the market are mainly water-cooled, as shown in Figure 1. The main components of the water cooling system are composed of water jackets, water pumps, fans, radiators, wind guides, water pipes, water temperature meters, temperature sensing pipes, thermostats and shutters. The coolant surrounding the water jacket of the cylinder is accelerated by the water pump, and the coolant is cooled in the radiator through the natural wind and cooling fan during driving. The cooled coolant is introduced into the water jacket again, and the cycle is repeated to achieve For the cooling of the engine, the temperature of the engine is controlled to be constant by adjusting the flow of cooling water and the rotation frequency of the cooling fan.

 

After understanding the working principle of the automobile engine cooling system, let us focus on the component that is highlighted today-the cooling fan. The working environment of the cooling fan is harsh and complex, so the requirements for material performance are also more demanding. QC/T 773-2006 "Technical Conditions for Electric Fans for Automotive Radiators" clearly puts forward the requirements for temperature resistance, dynamic balance, fatigue resistance, voltage resistance, flame resistance, and solvent resistance of automotive fan materials.

1. Temperature resistance, the working temperature range of automobile fans is relatively large, especially the performance of high temperature resistance is more strict.

2. Dynamic balance, the quality of the car fan should be kept uniform and stable, which is an important factor affecting the stability and durability of the fan. Currently, the provisions for fan instability are shown in Table 2;

3. Fatigue resistance. Since the number of revolutions of the car fan will be adjusted according to the temperature of different engines, the fatigue resistance of the fan needs to be tested. The usual test method is to run at a low speed of 200h at a temperature of 50 ℃, then run at a high speed of 400h at a temperature of 50 ℃, and finally run at a high speed of 400h at a temperature of 100 ℃.

4. Flammability, it is easy to catch fire when the car fan fails, so the material fan is required to have no open flame after 1h of locked-rotor test.

5. Solvent resistance. There are many kinds of solvents in the automobile engine system, which can easily cause corrosion to the automobile fan. Therefore, the automobile fan is required to be soaked in brake fluid, antifreeze, engine oil, fuel and other solvents for 48 hours without damage.
